Hosanna Church hits an audio high with HPI

The Korean community in Springvale Australia.

This week the new Korean Hosanna Church in Springvale Australia opened its doors and celebrated the end of a long process of opening a new church building development. The church is situated in what could be called a large factory style building and naturally, the acoustics of such a building would present special problems and need a special sound system to overcome them.

The selection process was lengthy and detailed but a system designed around the Quest HPI-110 was selected. Designed by Jonathan Sinclair from Melbourne’s Pro Light and Sound, was selected.

The church space is quite large and the church elders were not sure such a physically small PA system could cover the area at live rock band SPL. They were willing to give it a try and the installation went ahead.

The system was installed and tested well before opening, but the first night for a new PA is always a “hope they like it” event where any unattended small detail can take the edge off a potentially great experience.

As it turned out, the PA exceeded everybody’s expectations and as the audio crew becomes more familiar with it, the system will get even better. The program is a mixture of live music, sophisticated A/V presentation and broadcast as well as the traditional speech  normally associated with a church service.

The audio system consists of two array hangs of three HPI-110 loudspeakers and four hung HPI-18LP sub bass powered by Camco ID4 amplifiers. The monitor system is four sends of Quest QM350i loudspeakers powered by Quest QA 3004 amplifiers.

The light weight of the HPI array makes it easy to hang the system is the right location for best results and the asymmetrical projection helps keep reflections from the walls and ceiling, thus helping intelligibility. This is very important in a church where the service is conducted in a language often not the congregation’s native tong.

Overall a great result for a new church.
